Pictures, Pictures, Pictures!!

Please e-mail an assortment of pictures. Current pictures and if possible pictures from when you were a toddler through high school. We are stuck in first gear without pictures. Outdoor shots in natural light settings are just great. Also head shots with you on your own and smiling. We have to crop out boyfriends and friends when we post the picture and sometimes the cropping make things look a little interesting so that is why we ask for pictures of you on your own or even with your children. Please e-mail your pictures to applications@surrogenesisusa.com or postal mail them to: Egg Donor Coordinator 3524 Oakdale Rd. Suite A, Modesto, CA 95357. Please include your name, address and phone number with your picture(s) submittal.

Testing

To be an egg donor there will be blood tests. Some of the testing is needed by the fertility clinic to verify that your egg supply is good. Other testing is for communicable diseases and is required by the FDA to protect the intended mother or gestational surrogate from these diseases; this blood draw is required within 30 days of the egg retrieval. Frequently there is a vaginal ultrasound to do an antral count of the number of follicles that you are presenting to get an idea of how many eggs can be retrieved from a cycle. Antral counts should be at least 10-12 which generally results in 9-12 fertilized eggs and three days later can have about 5-8 good embryos in a young donor and 3-5 good embryos in an older donor for transfer.

Compensation: How much will I be paid?

You determine the compensation that you feel appropriate not SurroGenesis USA, INC. Your online application includes a section for you to enter your requested compensation. ASRM guidelines suggest a $5,000 - $8,000 range for a typical donor. This suggested compensation rate was determined by a complex formula heavily weighted by the number of donor hours multiplied by an average donor’s hourly earning rate. A donor that has just finished medical school or any graduate school would have an hourly pay rate would be higher than a college sophomore. Parents are looking for college sophomores as well as nurses, medical students, stay-at-home Moms. We receive donor requests based on ethnicity, height, weight, hair color, education level, personal interests.

Compensation Distribution: When will I be paid?

You compensation check will be sent out to you within 5 business days of your retrieval. The funds will come from the trust account established at the time of the contract. You are compensated for the inconvenience of the process and time expended on the process and not the number of eggs retrieved.

Reimbursement

Reimbursement checks are dispersed on the first of the month. All reimbursable expenses need to be submitted by 5 business days before the end of the month to go out on the first. SurroGenesis USA knows there are emergencies so let us know if you need help so that you do not miss out on any needed items for cycle or during cycle.

Travel Costs

Travel costs are the responsibility of the Intended Parents. SurroGenesis USA will pay the airlines directly for your tickets if needed and get reimbursed from the Intended Parents escrow account. Per mile charges or shuttle service to the airport is usually a reimbursement but if needed SurroGenesis USA will do an advance to cover your travel expenses. We want you at the clinic relaxed, in one piece and on time. The time of retrieval is not flexible. The doctor will be monitoring your progress and will have timed a “trigger” shot for an exact retrieval time. Being late for this ruins the cycle and may end a parents’ chance of ever having a family.

Cycle Drugs

Drugs will be prescribed for your use and paid for by the Intended parent(s). The fertility clinic will give you instructions on administering the drugs and will give you a calendar so that you know how much and when to be taking these drugs. Most clinics have an after hours paging service if you have an issue about administering the drug. Also, SurroGenesis USA has an after hours paging service to help you as well. We are not MDs but we have been through this process many times and most likely know the answer and if not we know whom needs to be contacted in a given situation. Do not hesitate to call with questions. Also, if you feel it is a medical emergency do not hesitate to go to the ER or call 911. We want you to be healthy and safe and your intended parents to have wonderful, fertile embryos for creating their family.

You will be put on the birth control pill, an oral contraceptive, before cycle. This is to help control/time your cycle to synchronize with the intended mother or the gestational surrogate. You will not be on the pill for the entire cycle. When you are off the pill you MUST abstain from sex until after the retrieval plus the fertility clinics recommended recovery time. You can plan on the abstention from sex being approximately 23-28 days.

Psychiatric Exam (MMPI) :

You will be examined by a licensed therapist to make sure that undue influence was not put on you mentally, physically or financially to participate in egg donation. He or she will verify that you understand the egg donation process from both a physical and mental point of view. They will also be looking to see what your support system is through the process. This exam is generally a 3-4 hour one time occurrence and benefits and protects both the egg donor and the intended parent(s). The cost of the exam is the responsibility of the intended parent(s). This exam is an ASRM guideline.

Sex

During cycle you are expected to abstain or have an extraordinarily bullet proof method of birth control like tubal ligation or a partner with a vasectomy. To get to this point in the infertility process your parent(s) may have mortgaged their home, sold their home and moved back in with their parents, maxed out their credit cards to pay for your services and the cost of the IVF cycle. A mistake resulting in fertilization by your partner could end your intended parents chance of ever having a family. Committing to an egg donor cycle is one of the finest things you will ever do in your life. Failing to complete the cycle because of a moment's passion or a whim is one of the cruelest things that you could ever do. You can plan on the abstention from sex being approximately 23-28 days.

Thank You

Thank you for taking the time to read through this. Thank you for your caring act of egg donation. Please do not hesitate to call or e-mail with any question that you may have. There are no silly questions and there is probably nothing that has not been asked of us at one time or another.
